certainly the darker your environment the better, another trick that is usually overlooked is:
* getting to bed by or before 10
* try not eating after 6 pm – this allows your body to NOT have to work so hard trying to process food while you are trying to sleep.
* another side benefit to this trick is it will help you lose some of those unwanted pounds
* another suggestion – do not go to bed upset / angry to ANY degree with your spouse – peaceful / restful sleep is greatly dependent upon a peaceful mind; not to mention all the other negative aspects of having disharmony between partners.
Buck,
As I think through the question of suggestions and ideas,
most Americans don’t realized how de-hydrated they really are, while the suggestion about NOT drinking water immediately before bed is a great one, in that same context it does our bodies well if we do a good job of hydrating (drinking WATER) during the day.
Personally, I enjoy mixing a tea spoon of natural raw apple cider vinegar per 8 ozs. of water. Good filtered water if possible
The amount is a debated issue but drinking water is important to our survival; interestingly you can google hydration / sleep and get a lot of good infomration about how important good hydration is to sound, relaxing sleep.
Most often we find our health inextricably tied to our food / lifestyle or lack thereof. Have a blessed day.

I find calcium helps too. I am presuming this is why my grandmother gave me warm milk and this always helped me feel peaceful and still does.
